TN Ren Faire Lover's Weekend
Ah, was quite the weekend :) Full of fun, food, and working around the house :P First off, the pics from the weekend

Friday I managed to get home a little early and began working on various things around the house that I had been needing to get done and had been slowly working on. One of these was the door between the dining room and the rest of the house. We were putting it up to divide the house more so that Chocolate, Rhianna, and Fionna could get out more and have more room than just our bedroom. Unfortunately, it ended up that the door was an inch smaller than the frame and the gap was just too large for the latch. And unfortunately, they do not make easily obtainable doors in the size we needed. I have since finished putting up the door and used hook and eye latches to secure it. I also got back around to doing something about the various patch jobs I had been working on.

Saturday we got up and began to get ready for a day at the Faire :) Got down there in reasonable time and waited a little bit for sailingwest to arrive. She had her two much younger sisters with her. Was fun to meet them and had several conversations with the one who was more into the whole Ren Faire experience :) Did some shopping as well. Witchcat picked out a really cute top and small gypsy bodice for herself that I got for her. Hopefully she will wear it this coming Saturday (when we return to the Faire). Also managed to get circlets for the two mistresses ;) I like being about to get things for my friends, especially if they might not get something that they would really like, but feel like they shouldn't spend money on themselves. And yes, I know... I myself am horrible about letting other people know what I might like :P We also caught a few of the shows there. Some Empty Hats, the Buckle and Swash show, Death Stands Up, and the Royal Improv show. We were also sitting down for another Empty Hats show when I got the idea that the girls might like to see Johnny Phoenix more than listen to admittedly fun music. I mean they are 14 (or so) and which would you rather see at that age? Musicians or some crazy guy walking barefoot across flaming sand? So took them up to see that and they seemed to enjoy it :) I am really trying to cut back on the concept of I want to see this and you're being dragged along with me :P Mainly due to having seen most of it before. Its time to let someone else decide what they might want to see :) Though there are a couple of shows that I definitely recommend! The Royal Improv being one :) And one has to speak up, else they will be dragged along to what I want to see :P

Sunday I did more work around the house. This time managed to trim the front yard, prune some of the bushes back, cut off various low hanging limbs or dead trunks, and finish putting the door up. I also did some painting of the water damage spots in the bathroom and kitchen. A few other things I did as well... I'm beginning to check off quite a bit from my list of things that needed to be done soon :) Chocolate was awfully wheezy that evening and we were pretty worried about her. It was mainly due to the shift in weather I think that left her massively stopped up in the nose. She was better this morning at least. Work has been lighter than last week so far at least. So anyways, that's the weekend :)

Nice renfest pics!! I especially liked the 2 pictures of the rapier fencing. With the lines in the grass, it looked as though it was a real competition, as opposed to a choreographed show -- was it? If so, I bet it would be a heckuva fun competition to enter! I wish my local renfests had something like that. Celtic Fling up in PA used to have an epee tournament (sport epee as opposed to SCA, in this case) but by the time I learned about it, it had been axed. :-(

Actually that was the very staged human chess match. I think though that those two were the better trained actors in combat scenes, at least with those weapons. For the most part, the speed was slower than a line drill :P

I have seen some ren faires with pretty good combat, some with not so great. This one falls about in the middle for this. However, in Atlanta, the Wayne Robbins Fencing Society has a booth for Fence a Pirate :P They have general gear for patrons to either spar each other or a pirate (in costume) with sabre (though no right of way rules).
